The name comes from the Ancient Greek word kḗleos, which means "burning", referring to the colorful, flame-like flower heads. Celosia plants come in three types: plumed, wheat, and cockscomb, and can produce blooms all season long. Common colors include purple, red, orange, yellow, white, pink, and maroon, while foliage colors include blue/green, purple/burgundy, and chartreuse/gold.
